Explore the Enchanting Outskirts of Istanbul
Istanbul, the only city that spans two continents, is the largest populated city in Europe. Every day, millions of people move between Europe and Asia, experiencing the organized chaos typical of any major metropolis. Yet, Istanbul stands out with its rich history, cultural depth, and fascinating architectural wonders, creating a seamless blend of past and future. Beyond the city’s bustling core lie beautiful outskirts filled with atmospheric villages, ancient aqueducts, grand bridges, historic castles, and serene weirs, all nestled between lush forests and the deep blue Bosphorus.
We will start our journey with Energy Museum – Santral. It is Istanbul’s first thermal power plant, dating back to 1914. Once the powerhouse lighting up the city’s homes and streets, it now serves as a university. The plant’s control room and massive generators have been preserved as an Energy Museum, offering a unique glimpse into the past. Some parts of the museum feel like stepping into a Mad Max movie set, providing a perfect backdrop for vintage photos.
Next, head to the interactive experiment room, a fascinating spot for visitors of all ages. Engage with hands-on scientific exhibits that spark curiosity and imagination, providing a fun and educational experience.
Belgrad Forest and ancient aqueducts
From the museum, journey north to the tranquil Belgrad Forest and ancient aqueducts. Enjoy the fresh air and lush greenery as you explore centuries-old Roman and Ottoman aqueducts and weirs. These impressive architectural feats once collected and transported water across miles to the city. The stories behind these structures reveal the ingenuity and resourcefulness of past civilizations.
Continue your adventure with a drive along the beautiful landscapes to charming villages on the shores of the Bosphorus and the Black Sea. Stop at a hilltop above a picturesque village to capture stunning photos with the Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge, the third bridge connecting Europe and Asia, as your backdrop. Climb a nearby tower for panoramic views and a chance to observe local birdlife.
Garipçe Village and Castle
A short drive brings us to Garipçe Village, located at the end of the Bosphorus. Here, greet the Black Sea from the vantage point of a historic castle. Stroll through the village’s quaint downtown, soaking in its peaceful ambiance and rich history.
